Galactosaemia is a condition in which the body is unable to use a sugar called galactose. Galactose is part of the main sugar found in milk, which ist called lactose. Galactose is produced from endogenous sources in the body, too. In people who have Galactosaemia, galactose builds up in the body and can cause a number of different harmful effects.
The European Galactosaemia Society (EGS) is a support group for persons and families with the metabolic disease Galactosaemia. Our main aim is to share information, to promote awareness of and to stimulate research into Galactosaemia within Europe.
